Irwin Allen Bishko

Irwin Allen Bishko passed away on May 2, 2024 in Parkland, Florida. He was 87 years old. Irwin (or Irv as he was known) was born July 23, 1936 in Cleveland, OH. His parents Rebecca (Edelman) and Morris Bishko (both deceased) raised their family in Cleveland. The family had three children including Lois (Richard) Brown of Sunrise, FL and his twin sister Ilene (Joel) Wachtel who predeceased him. The two twins had a deep and inseparable bond. Irv loved gardening and walking in the woods on his rural property in Novelty, Ohio. When spending winters in Florida, he enjoyed volunteering at a local elementary school. He greatly enjoyed sharing his knowledge of gardening with the young students. Mr. Bishko had a successful career in wholesale carpeting with Coronet Carpets. He had long and friendly relationships with clients across Northeastern Ohio. He began collecting and selling automotive literature, which blossomed into Bishko Automotive Literature - a mail-order business he ran from his home in Novelty, OH until 2001. Mr. Bishko was predeceased by his first wife Grace - who gave him children and grandchildren. He was devoted to his wife Gail (married 35 years) and his family. Irv and Gail travelled a great deal during their retirement. He was a devoted Clevelander through and through. Irv loved antique cars, the Cleveland Orchestra, and summer concerts at Blossom Music Center. Irwin and Gail’s social life in Florida was rich with the friendship of other “empty nesters.” Mr. Bishko is survived by his children Mark (Rachel) Bishko of Buffalo, MO, Leslie Bishko of Vancouver, British Columbia, CA, and Diane (John) Allen of Bend, OR. He is also survived by his step-children David (Hiroko) Sindell of Livermore, CA, and Debbie Sindell of Miami Beach, FL. He is survived by his grand-children: Scott, Honor, Alastair, Joyous, Shephard, Noah, Benjamin, and Adam. The funeral will take place at Cleveland Jewish Funerals (26801 Miles Road, Cleveland, OH 44128) on Tuesday May 7, 2024 at 1:00 PM followed by burial at Mount Olive Cemetery (27855 Aurora Road, Solon, OH 44139). Shiva will be observed at the Bishko home (14550 Watt Road, Novelty, OH 44072). Visitation will take place Tuesday following burial as well as Wednesday and Thursday from 1:00-5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Jewish Federation of Cleveland.
