Morad Ghodooshim

Morad Ghodooshim, age 85, of Novelty, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, August 12, 2024. Morad was born on March 13, 1939 in Isfahan, Iran to Yahya Ghodooshim and Saltanat Motahedeh. He immigrated to the United States in 1958 and attended college at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. There, he met and quickly fell in love with Dora Nelson. They were married on August 26, 1962. The couple then relocated to Cleveland, where they raised their children, September and Aaron. Morad placed a strong emphasis on the value of education, both personally and professionally. He worked as a math teacher in Cleveland Public Schools, earned his Masters degree in Counseling from Emporia State University, and earned his Doctor of Education from Nova Southeastern University, where he specialized in community college education. Morad spent the majority of his career at Cuyahoga Community College as a career counselor full-time starting in 1971 until his retirement. After retiring, he continued in the same role part-time until 2022, impacting the educational journeys of countless students over the years. He encouraged his children and granddaughter to pursue higher education and took great pride in their achievements. Morad enjoyed gardening, cooking, monitoring the stock market, spending time with his wife, children, and granddaughter, and planning family vacations. He loved preparing stir-fry, kebabs, kuku sabzi (a Persian baked omelet), and grilling hamburgers. He took great joy in carefully planning family trips to destinations around Ohio, Michigan, and various other locations, always searching for great deals in the process. He described family as “meaning everything to him - a source of support, joy, and fun.” He was preceded in death by his parents and two of his brothers, Mansour and Solomon. He is survived by his wife, Dora (née Nelson) of Novelty; daughter September (Steven) Sloane of Bainbridge Township; son Aaron of Aurora; granddaughter Rachel (Ashley) Waring-Sparks of Normal, Illinois; brother Yosef and sister Shahin, both of Los Angeles; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members in Ohio and California. He will be deeply missed and will always be remembered for his generosity, hearty laughter, kindness, and compassion for all living creatures. A graveside service is scheduled for Thursday, August 15 at Zion Memorial Park in Bedford Heights. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the charitable organization of your choice.
